A Wookie Garcia Sighting!

Wookie Garcia will be performing this Wednesday June 25 at Humphreys Backstage Live. This is the indoor space you've probably seen when visiting Humphreys for one of their main stage concerts out on the Bay. Our friend Jeff Ousley hosts his Live Music Showcase there on the last Wednesday of the month, so here we are. The show starts early at 6 pm and runs until 10. No word yet on when we play, there are other bands playing as well. We will follow up with this post when we know.

Joining us in the band will be Bob Sheehan on drums, Doug Harrison on guitar, and Bob Fedeli on keys.

5 bucks at the door, 21 and up. We'll see you there!

Wookies Sit for Interview with Cathryn Beeks!

You will see a couple of familiar faces in the September edition of the San Diego Troubadour. In Cathryn Beeks' Listen Local section she interviews Kyle and Brian. Their conversation touches on the band's most recent LP, 4 Days in the Valley, the two videos the band has completed for the record, and how the musicians in the band have managed to put up with each other for so long. Brian and Kyle also manage a moment to thank Cathryn for her many contributions to the San Diego music scene. Cathryn was kind enough to play both 4 Days vids, “HOA Man,” and “Where the Trees Reach the Sky.”

Summertime...and the Livin' is Easy

Hello summer. Hello to a show at the beach! Wookie Garcia will be out at the new (sort of) Northside Tavern OB. This is an early afternoon performance, so you'll still have your Saturday night free. The band will be playing two sets starting at 3:30, and there is no cover, so come and go as you please. Wookie will be onstage until 5:30 or so. 21 and up.

A Great Night Out!

On April 30, Wookie Garcia was proud to attend the 33rd Annual San Diego Music Awards show at Humphreys by the Bay. It was first of all, a gathering of the Wookie family, those who participated in the creation of our 4 Days in the Valley record. Second, it was an opportunity to hang with our fellow local musicians, many of whom we've known for years, some we've just met recently. It was a fun night honoring winners and nominees, listening to a variety of musical styles, and raising a record amount for the San Diego Music Foundation's Guitars for Schools program. Check out our updated photos page for more!

Wookie Garcia's New Video Debuts on SDMA Showcase Friday!

Our newest video will have its YouTube premiere at midnight! Emily Ince has once again crafted an artful visual to accompany our song “Where the Trees Reach the Sky.” Brother Kellen Ince stars in the narrative, playing a young Tom Waits walking around Waits' old stomping grounds in Chula Vista. The band, featuring guest drummer Bob Sheehan, performs beneath some really tall trees. Watch it on repeat all day long if you like, but remember to head out to Navajo Live for the SDMA Showcase at 8.

4 Days in the Valley is Reviewed in San Diego Troubadour this Month!

The April edition of the San Diego Troubadour is out and features a review of Wookie Garcia's latest release 4 Days in the Valley. Thanks to Emily Bartell, who wrote the piece, which highlights several of the album's songs, describing them musically, lyrically, and even emotionally. Read for yourself at the link, and make sure to listen to the record yourself if you haven't already.

Wookie Garcia Included in Music Awards Showcase

Wookie Garcia will be part of a San Diego Music Awards Nominee Showcase at Navajo Live on Friday April 26. We will play first at 8 pm, and four more nominated bands will follow.  This event is one of a few such showcases throughout the city that will take place in the week leading up to the actual awards show at Humphreys by the Bay on Tuesday April 30. A reminder too that voting in all categories is continuing daily through 5pm March 27. If you haven't yet voted today, please do so. Remember our favorite category is Indie/Alternative Album, where our record 4 Days in the Valley is up against some strong competition.

As with the awards show, proceeds from the showcases go to the San Diego Music Foundation. Come on out and support Wookie Garcia, a good cause, and live music in San Diego!
