A Wookie Garcia Sighting!

Wookie Garcia will be performing this Wednesday June 25 at Humphreys Backstage Live. This is the indoor space you've probably seen when visiting Humphreys for one of their main stage concerts out on the Bay. Our friend Jeff Ousley hosts his Live Music Showcase there on the last Wednesday of the month, so here we are. The show starts early at 6 pm and runs until 10. No word yet on when we play, there are other bands playing as well. We will follow up with this post when we know.

Joining us in the band will…

Wookies Sit for Interview with Cathryn Beeks!

You will see a couple of familiar faces in the September edition of the San Diego Troubadour. In Cathryn Beeks' Listen Local section she interviews Kyle and Brian. Their conversation touches on the band's most recent LP, 4 Days in the Valley, the two videos the band has completed for the record, and how the musicians in the band have managed to put up with each other for so long. Brian and Kyle also manage a moment to thank Cathryn for her many contributions to the San Diego music scene. Cathryn was kind…

Summertime...and the Livin' is Easy

Hello summer. Hello to a show at the beach! Wookie Garcia will be out at the new (sort of) Northside Tavern OB. This is an early afternoon performance, so you'll still have your Saturday night free. The band will be playing two sets starting at 3:30, and there is no cover, so come and go as you please. Wookie will be onstage until 5:30 or so. 21 and up.

Wookie Garcia's New Video Debuts on SDMA Showcase Friday!

Our newest video will have its YouTube premiere at midnight! Emily Ince has once again crafted an artful visual to accompany our song “Where the Trees Reach the Sky.” Brother Kellen Ince stars in the narrative, playing a young Tom Waits walking around Waits' old stomping grounds in Chula Vista. The band, featuring guest drummer Bob Sheehan, performs beneath some really tall trees. Watch it on repeat all day long if you like, but remember to head out to Navajo Live for the SDMA Showcase at 8.

Wookie Garcia Included in Music Awards Showcase

Wookie Garcia will be part of a San Diego Music Awards Nominee Showcase at Navajo Live on Friday April 26. We will play first at 8 pm, and four more nominated bands will follow.  This event is one of a few such showcases throughout the city that will take place in the week leading up to the actual awards show at Humphreys by the Bay on Tuesday April 30. A reminder too that voting in all categories is continuing daily through 5pm March 27. If you haven't yet voted today, please do so. Remember our favorite…

A New Show with Some Old Friends

Wookie Garcia is prepping for our first show of the new year on Monday January 22. The band will be playing on a bill with 2 current members of the Vermont band, The Grift. Accompanying them will be former bandmate, Neil, who obviously is the same Neil occupying the drum chair in Wookie Garcia. All this excitement will be happening at Navajo Live beginning with The Grift's set at 7:30, and Wookie starting at 8:45. This should be a great night, 2 bands, no cover, songs and jams, and plenty of fun and dancing…

Wookie and Friends Impromptu Reunion

Thanks to all who came out to Navajo Live last night to see the band. We had a great night of music, dancing & re-connecting with friends. We are doing our best to recreate the big sound of our upcoming record, and we were very fortunate to have Robert Fedeli on organ, and Doug Harrison on guitar for last night's performance. What was unexpected was to have Bob Sheehan in the house who played drums on two songs and Ted Stern (Hatfield Rain) who played violin on one. From the stage it all sounded fantastic…

Wookie Garcia to Play Second Annual Ride for Autism

Because last year's event was so much fun, and raised both dollars and awareness for the Sweetwater Union High School District's Special Services Department, we're returning to perform for the ride's second year.

From the Event web site:
On Saturday, April 23, 2016 the SUHSD Special Services Department will be having the 2nd Annual RIDE FOR AUTISM. The Ride for Autism invites the motorcycle community to ride to through the South Bay area and visit several SUHSD school sites while raising money for students on…Read more

At Least We Know the Songs will be Good

This Tuesday April 22 Wookie Garcia will be playing the Delta Room at the House of Blues downtown.  The all-ages show will be a celebration of the music of John Prine and Ryan Adams, and will feature many top local artists performing their favorite songs from these two writers.  The added benefit for us as the closers, we will get to play a 30 minute set including some of our Wookie favorites. We don't want to give away which songs we're going to cover, but let's just say that one song mentions wine…Read more

A Neighborhood Bar and a Fun Time

Friday night the band had a great time at Pal Joey's, a super neighborhood bar with a cozy little niche in the back where bands can play.  Cathryn Beeks from ListenLocalSD was there and had us on some sort of webcast where people could watch the show live on their computers or something.  We'll have to look into that a little closer.  We had some extra time after our regular set so we pulled out some of our clever covers including the rarely played, "Stand by Me" to celebrate Brian & Mary Anne's…Read more

Wookie's Debut at Pal Joey's is Friday!

Come on out this Friday to see the band debut at a new place, Pal Joey's.  All told there will be four bands, with Wookie playing last at 11:00. Last time out we played three brand new songs and a couple of older ones from the Usual Suspects days.  Who knows what's in store this week?  No cover!

The Last Call Didn't Disappoint

A place that uses the phrase, "Get Ugly Early" as a sort of rallying cry/brand just has to be fun.  And it was.  We played an hour, debuted a new song, and got to meet a cool band from Seattle called The West that was just starting a tour of the west. Thanks to everybody who came out to see us.  Pix and maybe some video to follow soon!

Show Tomorrow at The Last Call!

Don't forget, tomorrow, Friday August 30 is our show at The Last Call.  We play at 9:00.  Yelp says that drinks are cheap there, and you know you've been meaning to buy the band a round, so come on down.  Or up, depending on your lattitude.  See you there!

Great Time Friday, More to Come

Thanks to everyone who came out to 98 Bottles Friday night.  We had a lot of fun performing as the unplugged version of ourselves.  The band will take this week off and then we will be back next week with two shows on Tuesday April 30 at the House of Blues and on Friday May 3 at the Sapphire Sports Bar and Grill.  We hope see you there!
